Autumn Vaccinations – Influenza & COVID-19

It’s already that time of the year for us to share our plans for vaccination clinics this autumn, including the flu and COVID vaccinations for eligible adults.

Influenza

The JCVI (Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation) have moved the start of the flu vaccination programme to the start of October. As in previous years, you are eligible for a flu jab if you are over 65 or have certain long term conditions. Full details are available at www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/flu-vaccine

COVID-19 Autumn Booster

As we move into autumn, protection from any earlier COVID-19 vaccination you may have had will be starting to wane. Current vaccines provide good protection against severe disease and hospitalisation. UKHSA surveillance data relating to last autumn’s programme shows that those who received a vaccine were around 45% less likely to be admitted to hospital with COVID-19. You are eligible if you are over 65 or in a clinical risk group. More details are available at ukhsa.blog.gov.uk/2024/08/02/whos-eligible-for-the-2024-covid-19-vaccine-or-autumn-booster

Our Clinics

We will be running our main vaccination clinics for flu and COVID (with the two vaccinations given together where appropriate) all day on:

  • Saturday 5th October
  • Saturday 12th October
  • Saturday 26th October

No providers will be allowed to give flu or COVID vaccinations earlier than these dates. We hope you will support the practice by attending on one of these days. We will contact you in early September to start booking in for these days.

Child Flu Vaccine

Unlike adults, children aged 2-3 (on 31st August 2024) will be offered a free flu vaccination in September. These will take place at the practice in the form of a nasal spray. We will contact parents regarding eligible infants in the next few weeks.
