Getting vaccinated against flu and COVID-19 offers protection for you and those around you for both these serious illnesses. Detailed below are our plans for delivering these vaccinations to our local population this autumn.
From mid-September, we will be delivering flu and COVID vaccinations together to our eligible patients. Clinicians will be giving ‘one in each arm’ wherever possible during one visit to the practice.
Most will be done on Saturdays and we have managed to secure vaccine deliveries (including the new Moderna bivalent COVID vaccine) to allow our first clinic to be on the morning of 17th September. This will be followed by an all-day clinic on 24th and ongoing dates in October, including midweek sessions.
As directed by the Joint Committee for Vaccinations and Immunisations (JCVI), we will initially prioritise the vaccination of :
- All those 65 years of age and over
- Adults 16-64 in a clinical risk group
There will also be a flu vaccination programme for children aged 2-3 on 31st August 2022 run by the surgery. Meanwhile, all primary school aged children from Reception to Year 6 will be offered a vaccine in school.
Once the above groups have been offered their vaccinations, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is asking us to extend our offer to :
- All adults aged 50-64 (and not in a clinical risk group)
We believe the vaccinations will be available to this cohort from mid-October onwards.
Please feel free to contact us by phone to book your appointment, remembering the timings and eligibility criteria above. We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you here to Frithwood for your vaccinations.
